Why some pages still show an August 31 deadline
Earlier official programme material used August 31 as the application deadline. Newer official sources now state that applications are open until September 15. This creates a real stale-information risk for founders relying on older search results, launch notices or cached programme pages.
For the current cohort, the September 15 date is the newer operative deadline identified during TPS verification.
What eligibility has been published?
Earlier IIT Madras programme communication described the target applicant as an Indian-incorporated startup generally under five years old, with no more than ₹10 crore previously raised, a technical co-founder and a working prototype or early pilot around TRL 4–7.
TPS did not find evidence that the September deadline extension changed those core eligibility conditions, but the latest extension material does not restate every original criterion. Founders should therefore confirm the current application form before relying on any individual threshold.
How much funding can selected startups receive?
Current official material describes potential support in two parts: up to ₹50 lakh in convertible funding and up to ₹1.5 crore in additional milestone-based funding. Together, that creates potential support of up to ₹2 crore per selected startup.
The phrase up to is important. TPS has not recovered the detailed contractual terms for the convertible component or the exact milestones controlling the additional funding, so founders should not assume that every selected startup automatically receives the full amount.
Which energy technologies are MC²+ Ignite looking for?
The current programme materials identify seven broad innovation areas:
- AI-driven subsurface intelligence
- next-generation drilling and well-completion technologies
- hydrogen and mobility
- bioenergy and compressed biogas
- refinery process intensification and catalysis
- digital asset management
- other relevant energy-sector innovation
What support is available beyond funding?
MC²+ Ignite is positioned as more than a cash-funding programme. Current material describes technical mentorship, access to research infrastructure, industry experts, pilot opportunities and pathways toward commercialisation and procurement through India’s energy ecosystem.
For a startup founder, this means programme fit should be assessed on both capital and the value of technical validation, pilot deployment and access to large energy-sector customers.
What documents are required?
TPS has not recovered a complete authoritative document checklist from the current extension material. The live application form should be treated as the controlling source for mandatory company, founder, technology, funding and supporting-document fields.
Do not rely on an older third-party checklist if it conflicts with the current application form.
What happens after applications close?
The programme is expected to move into startup selection and cohort onboarding after the application window. MC²+ describes subsequent support through mentoring, research nodes, build and validation activity, pilots and pathways toward industry procurement or commercialisation.
TPS has not independently recovered a complete post-selection calendar for the current cohort, so specific dates beyond the September 15 application deadline should not be assumed.
